Unveiling the Past: A Journey Through History

The history of Killa Aul dates back to the 16th century. The present-day Killa Aul Palace was established in the year 1590 A.D. and, since then, has been the Royal Residence of its succeeding Rulers consisting of 19 generations till the present day.

The Killa was established by the elder son of the last independent Gajpati of Kalinga, Raja Ram Chandra Deva and the royal family are, hence, the direct descendants of the last independent ruler of Kalinga, Gajapati Mukunda Deva, who ruled from the precincts of the famous Barabati Fort at Cuttack in 1567 AD.

The royal family records a history of over 426 years which makes for an interesting conversation when one interacts with the host.
